About Mercado do Bolhão

Mercado do Bolhão opened in 1914 in a purpose-built two-storey iron-and-stone market hall, and quickly became the city's main fresh produce market. After years of decline it underwent a major renovation, reopening in 2022 with its original iron structure restored alongside new food stalls, while still hosting the traditional greengrocers, fishmongers and flower sellers on its ground floor.

Highlights

  • Opened in 1914 in an iron-and-stone market hall
