View on Map →Opened in 1906 by brothers José and António Lello, this Neo-Gothic bookshop was designed by engineer Xavier Esteves and is best known for its ornate double spiral staircase in deep red, and the stained-glass skylight above it. It's popularly — if disputedly — linked to J.K. Rowling, who lived in Porto in the early 1990s and is said to have drawn on it while imagining Hogwarts.
